‘Ionavale’ was purchased by the Krieg Family in 1977 and for the next 20 years it was run as a traditional fallow and grazing property. From this programme the Kriegs then moved to continual direct drill cropping, rotating cereals and legumes and in some years canola was also grown depending on seasonal conditions and pricing. The Kriegs concentrated on soil health and sustainable farming. In the last few years a shift was made back to running a sheep breeding fat lamb operation with crops grown to suit seasonal conditions. Labour availability had a lot to do with this decision as stock assistance and advice was available and assisted with the workload.

Water – ‘Ionavale’ is on the Carrathool shire run and operated Yoolaroi water scheme which is an excellent system allowing adequate water for stock and spraying anytime. Very reliable water security is a feature of this property with 90,000 litre storage available.

Home – ‘Ionavale’ has a brick veneer dwelling with the addition of a western red cedar glass front entertainment room and veranda. 5 bedrooms plus separate office with an open fire place in the lounge room, 2 bathrooms and solid timber kitchen. The kitchens feature is a German craftsman timber cupboards built from the Port Adelaide’s wool shed in South Australia. The household water is mainly from a 130,000 litre rain water storage and the garden is supplied from the Stock and domestic water scheme or dams. Heating and cooling to the home is supplied via ducted evaporative air conditioner and a wood heater.
