This tractor has done many years of heavy work and is still in regular use. History: Sold new into Bellata district in 1967. Bought by Syd Brown in 1984.

• Works. Specifications: Made in the USA about 1967. 504 cubic inch diesel engine. 93 max drawbar horsepower. It's enormous engine crankshaft torque enabled the G-705 to easily out-perform all old-style large tractors. Last of the purely hand-clutched, wheeled tractors available in Australia. History: Previous owner Jim Brown, "Wallon", Moree. A mishap, caused by a rat- damaged water hose, ruined the original engine in 1970. A Perkins 6-354 conversion has allowed heavy work to continue for nearly 50 years. This tractor was the first one owned by the Browns to have power-steering and remote hydraulics.

This tractor was very expensive with an impeccable reputation. History: Original owner from Mullaley. Bought by Syd Brown and used occasionally until the coolant leaked into the sump during storage and seized the crankshaft bearings. There is obviously a hole rusted through a cylinder sleeve. The sump oil and coolant were drained, but the problem was never repaired and the tractor became a static display only.

Drove an irrigation bore pump for over 10 more years. Still in use seasonally, raking hay, sawing firewood and driving a PTO welder. Requires engine overhaul. There is no serious “blow by”. The fuel injection system has been thoroughly overhauled to no effect. Apparently, there is valve trouble.

A highly desirable, 'state of the art' machine, featuring electric starting, lighting and individual turning brakes. History: Originally owned 'Sylvania', Boggabri. Retired from heavy work in the 1960's. Continued on light duties doing belt pully work into the 1990's. Bought by Syd Brown, not going (engine dismantled). The pistons are in a box on the rear platorm. The connecting rods are missing. There is also a wrecked one which came from a clearing sale. It had had 2 Maules Creek floods go over it and was never cleaned out – just abandoned.

Their big failing was the light-built frame that was too easily damaged, especially when pulled at speed by big tractors. History: Bought new in the 1950s by a farmer in Harparary. This plough has big discs and is still in good working order.

This was not successful and the agents recommended paying extra for Timken bearings in the discs as well. History: Mum had found this nice second hand 12 disc Horwood Bagshaw plough advertised in the newspaper.

• Specifications: A very well-built machine! One of several makes of heavy disc ploughs which came onto the market after the patent (10 years) ran out on Chamberlain ploughs. Chamberlain industries designed and marketed the first big heavy ploughs available in 10-ft, 14-ft, and 18-ft sizes. The Case ploughs came in 10-ft, 16-ft, 18-ft, 20-ft, and 22-ft disc sizes and although appearing identical to Chamberlains, they had 16-inch wheel rims instead of 18-inch which enabled truck tyres to be used, a longer end beam and claimed more undercut.

• History: Bought new from Ewing and Co. of Moree. Usually recommended to be supplied with a full set of frame weights, but there was none available at the time. Syd Brown made up a frame to carry a 44-gallon drum of water instead. He fitted an 11 x 16 wheel and tyre to the land wheel so it could get a better grip to help hold the side draft.

• Specifications: Originally, 21 tynes with each tyne having a 7-inch cut. History: Bough new by Syd Brown in the late-1960s. The usual spacing was 6 inches on all opposition makes. Inclined to “crab” easily, this was cured on Syd Brown’s machine by adding two extra tynes. The wheel ran in those tyne tracks and made the scarifier track perfectly straight under any conditions.

• Specifications: Very strong, all-welded frame resulting in a practically fool-proof, rugged machine. The finish pattern left behind was irregular and obviously of no importance to the designers. There was a very active and popular Horwood Bagshaw dealer at Bellata who saturated the district with these machines and combine seed drills. Chamberlains were the popular ploughs to have and DS headers made by David Shearer were the PTO (tractor drawn) harvesting machines of choice, having a greater capacity than any opposition makes. For some reason, Horwood headers were not popular in the area, partly because capacity handle heavy crops was “pathetic” compared to the Shearer DS. History: Early history unknown.

• Specifications: Described by George Brown as “the best machine that ever came on the place!” Capable of handling considerably more stubble or surface trash that a spring-Tyne cultivator or combine seeder – this avoided in most cases the need to replough using discs. History: Original owner Fred Brown, Maules Creek. Developed during the 1930's and released onto the market with little or no field testing. By the time Fred bought this machine in 1939, the troubles had all been sorted out and it proved an excellent implement. A very active machinery agent in the Boggabri sold dozens of them in the surrounding area.

History: This particular one was wrongly assembled by its non-mechanical original owner. It was written off as a useless failure. Given to his neighbour, who did not want it or need it, it was eventually given to Syd Brown after standing idle and unwanted, it then became part of Syd’s Wheatland Farm Machinery Museum.

An upgrade of the 'Type CS' of the early 1960s, it was considered big for that time. The CS-105, by the late 1960s, was a very popular 'popular sized' machine, sold in huge numbers. Heavily constructed specifically for bulk handling grain and using a remote hydrostatic control box mounted on the tractor, it was considered 'state of the art'. History: Purchased 2nd hand by Syd Brown, Maules Creek in 1974. This header possibly harvested more acres over 30+ seasons than any other CS-105 in Australia.

Mannum, South Australia, 1962. 12-foot harvesting width featuring inbuilt hydraulically operated comb lift, pre-lubricated low friction ball bearings throughout and 'open' style threshing concave. A magnificent popular sized machine, being the final upgrade of the model '36' header from the 1940's. History: The MS headers were being discounted and heavily discounted in price to clear away any still in local agents' yards. Mr Sid Cain, the manager of the Narrabri Shearer agency, took Syd Brown to Warialda to look at one and his father Frederick Brown agreed to buy it, even though he was perfectly happy with his 10yo Sunshine No.6. The bagging box was replaced by the trailer bin, so grain could be bulk handled. Retired in the 1983 harvest season.

Superseding the Sunshine No. 6 header the 506 was the final update of Headlie Taylor's original 1914 design, continuously improved and manufactured for 50 years at the Sunshine Harvester Works. • Specifications: Has the new type comb front which came out in 1936. It came with a bagging platform, which needed two men to bag, plus a driver on the tractor and one to work the header. But this one was fitted with a grain box when WWII started due to the lack of man power - grain box made by Boggabri Engineering Works. History: Original owner from Boggabri. Purchased by Syd Brown in 1980s.
