Temperament not assessed in Paddock
The heifers were generally good to handle in the yards and through the race and crush. 10 head were mildly agitated and six heifers became highly agitated during preg testing and exiting the crush. In the bigger yard they were generally settled but four heifers were nervous and would not completely settle unless given more space. As a mob they tended to have a quieter lead, then push through the gates together with a quieter tail following behind. Nothing was aggressive.

Assessor Comments
A fair through to very good and excellent quality line of vendor bred heifers. The heifers were vet preg tested in calf to Moongool Charolais bulls and are 3 to 5 months in calf with the majority 5 months in calf. They have not had grain or cotton seed during their lives and are eligible for pasture fed programs. No active pink eye was observed in the heifers. There is a wider range in the age heifers as the drought forced an extended calving period and then two weanings in 2021. The heifers are showing good weight for age and had a LWR of 325 - 544 kg full weight at assessment. Given the breed type and the size of mature cows on "Boongalla" they should grow into mostly large frame cows. They are located right on the Leichardt Hwy between The Gum and Moonie and would work in with trucks moving north and south. Quality vendor bred heifers that are surplus to requirements and have been PTIC for a spring-early summer calving.
