Heifers were drafted through a pound on foot and whilst they moved quickly they were blocked and sent into the pound one at a time with minimal fuss. Whilst moving actively through gates opened in front of them none were considered aggressive . Consistent with commercial heifers some became claustrophobic when isolated.

A line of good EU accredited heifers from the coast north of Marlborough they have the ability to go on and thrive anywhere. The large percentage of polled heifers is very attractive , the dehorned heifers would also carry some polled genetics . Being on the coast these heifers have had access to Lantana. These heifers will produce good crossbred calves that will require minimal dehorning and suit any weaner market . A couple of heifers showed some fly scarring on their neck it was not believed that this would affect their breeding potential.
