Temperament not assessed in Paddock
Steers were exceptional to handle. Displayed no run at all when assessing and drafting through yards. A small number were quick into crush and keen to move out of confines but were no issue. The Chatsworth House program places significant emphasis on stock handling. This draft has been well weaned and handled throughout their lives and this is evident in how they presented at assessment.

Assessor Comments
Chatsworth House Pastoral are offering the lead draft of spring drop Angus & Black Baldy steers, presenting in healthy store to forward store condition. Steers are sired by high quality Bowmont sires bred from a cow herd of principally Bowmont and Te Mania bloodlines with genetic selection focussing on growth and positive carcase attributes. The Chatsworth steers would normally be targeted at the heavy feeder market later in the year with previous purchasers feedback very positive. They were assessed after a 15hr wet curfew having had no access to ration or hay since 5pm the day prior to assessment. Well weaned in January, transitioned onto the McKenzie Ag Weaner Mix & cereal hay and have displayed consistent improvement with Optiweigh data showing 0.7kg/day average weight gain. A terrific opportunity to acquire well bred Angus & Black Baldy steers, ideal to background and with the breeding and capacity to take on to heavy weights.
