Temperament not assessed in Paddock
These were very good to handle in all areas of the yards. They marched up the race very well and most were steady on the weighing platform, a few jumped about a fraction. They were also good to handle in the bigger yards but like all cattle need to be steadied through gateways and stood up well during photographing. Buyer advised to settle these steers on arrival before letting them go out of the yards. These are very good to handle on horses in the paddock.

Assessor Comments
Buyers, here are 3 decks of yearling steers that have had NO GRAIN / NO ANTIBIOTICS. There are 252 in the draft all up being offered in three B-Doubles and will be delivered into even lots in the event there are multiple buyers. The whole draft would probably fit on 8½ decks. They present in mainly store condition, they offer buyers plenty of compensatory weight gain when introduced to crop, grass or grain. Plenty of frame, not much condition so it shouldn’t take long to get them to heavier export feedlot entry weights or right through to bullocks. Ideal to stockpile for oats crops this winter. Most steers yet again exhibit softness, good bone, length, depth of barrel and weight for age. The vendors are very careful when choosing their bulls annually and not frightened to spend for the right article, often surpassing the $20,000 mark at Cree Santa sale. Noted 8 steers in total line of 252 with early signs of blight so they were treated with Orbenin at assessment.

Breeding Comments
Santa bulls purchased from Cree annually. There have been Shorthorn bulls from Weebollabolla in the herd.
Grazing Conditions
Running on developed Brigalow / Bottletree softwood scrub country with a good body of lush Buffel grass from recent rainfall 10 days ago of 40-50mm. The feed was hayed right off prior to the rain. Feed looks to to be running through the steers a bit.

Vendor Comments
These are being sold as part of our normal program. They were very good to handle on horses whilst mustering for assessment. Just small amount of buffalo fly that has hit them since the rain. A spray as they walk off the truck would be advised.
